Pursuit Special, when the term is used, generally refers to Max's more famous V8 Interceptor Pursuit Special, a 1973 Ford XB Falcon GT 351, commissioned at great expense by Police Commissioner Labatouche and the Main Force Patrol's (MFP) commander, Fifi Macaffee.

The car began its life as a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT with a 351-cubic-inch (5.8-litre) V8 sending tyre-smoking torque through a four-speed manual transmission. The Interceptor was then given to stunt driver Murray Smith as payment, after the film exhausted its budget building the car.
